The half term juggle

Ah the half term juggle. It’s a tangible thing. The fact that I could be out on deliveries clearing this afternoon for admin and a dog walk, but instead I’m sat here doing admin (and finding more admin that I should have done) whilst writing a blog post (aka procrastinating), whilst the feral - in much need of a walk - dog pounces on, and consumes anything that comes out of the printer. It’s been a busy week.

The kids are still in bed.

Obviously, the kids are nearly of an age where I can leave them, but since the 13-year old dramatically fainted (she’d not eaten, we know now that she must eat breakfast), I do at least like to see them have some food before I leave them to vegetate on the sofa whilst I walk the dog/do deliveries/run the business.

And yet, they WILL be going back to school on Monday (hooray), and I haven’t had to homeschool them since last year (there wasn’t much schooling, mostly yelling). And normality will be restored. I don’t know why I’m surprised every time the kids have a holiday/day off that suddenly my timetable reports to them and them alone, but somehow, it always comes as a bit of a surprise.

Half term does also mean that I tend to go a little quieter across social media. Aside from one ridiculously long chat on stories earlier this week regarding the Small Business Pop Up and Small Business Social.

So I thought I’d give you a little update on those!

The Small Business Pop Up is going to be back, it’s just taking a little longer to finalise things than I’d hoped. I’ve decided that Harriet and Rose is going to head things up, so it comes under the Harriet and Rose website (it’s now got its own drop down on the navigation bar - so it’s real!). My thinking is that that way I can write about it here, and don’t have to set up a whole other website. And, having spent hours (and hours) organising it, it sort of makes sense.

Covid has - of course - led to so much uncertainty about events, and markets, but I hope to have finalised where The Small Business Pop Up is going, and you’ll be the first to know (well maybe not first!).

It’s also led me to have a real think about the small business community in Jersey, and how we can all come together to support one another. And that’s got me hatching another plan… The Small Business Social. This is very much in the pipeline at present, and I am not quite sure when Covid will allow this to launch, but in short, it’ll be a monthly or quarterly meet up of small business owners to chat about something specific (eg, accounts, or branding) over a glass of wine (or soft drink) and some nibbles. Because being a small business owner is hard! And it can be lonely, and if we all come together, it could be that we have the solutions another business needs.

If you want to sign up to hear more drop me an email at harriet@harrietandrose.co.uk and I’ll add you to the mailer.

But until we are allowed to meet up en masse again, I’ve got the small matter of cards to sort out. Valentine’s Day cards off, Mother’s Day cards on.

Have a lovely weekend.
