Candle Care

Since we launched our first excusive collaboration between Daisy at Kota candles and Ray Ubsdell, our potter, we’ve nearly sold out of the white candles. With the ceramics having been thrown in Trinity, and the candles poured in St Brelade you can’t get more local! Made from soy wax and natural fragrance, there are no nasties. They have a long, clean burn time, and a brilliant throw of perfume. Honestly we can’t get wait to get planning our next drop of limited edition vessels and candles. This is definitely a Jersey partnership we’ll be revisiting!

We know that candles can feel like an indulgent gift, and we know that they can feel like an investment, so we want you to get the most out of them. Kota have a list of guidelines so that you can optimise your burn times, and keep your candle going as long as possible! We’ve added some advice as to how to remove any wax residue at the end as well so that you can keep using your vessels - in this case, the beautiful ceramic pots.

1. When lighting for the first time burn until wax melts across entire surface to the sides of vessel (this prevents tunnelling, and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s ‘life’) This may take up to 2-3hours, depending on the size of the candle.

2. Trim wick to 5 mm before each burn to promote an even burn, steady flame and limit sooting/mushrooming of wick.

3. Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

4. Extinguish candle with a snuffer, or dip wick into melted wax and then straighten wick to prevent smoking and prevent hot wax from splattering. Do not blow out.

5. When using your candle ensure it is placed in a well-ventilated room.

6. Never burn a candle when the wax is nearly finished always leave at least a cm of wax at the bottom to prevent over heating of the glass.

8. Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place.

9. Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as a spotlights, always keep away from children and pets.

10. Once you have finished your candle, you can remove all the remaining wax by pouring boiling water in the pot. Once it is fully cooled, the wax residue will rise to the top and solidify, you can then remove it, pour the water away, remove the wick, and keep using your pot!
