Some more shop blogging (it could become a bit of a theme...!)

Shop renovations… I was daunted at first. I’m confident in my ability to choose a paint, or a tile. I’m a dab hand at buying too many cushions, and you can never have too many pictures in the ‘to frame’ pile. But most of all, when choosing things for your home, versus your workplace, it has to just be your personal taste… if people don’t like it, then who cares?! They don’t live there!

At first, trying to find a scheme that would appeal to - if not everyone - most people, had me reaching timidly for the tester pots. Going safe, rather than for something that I really loved. But then, over the last couple of weeks I’ve realised something really freeing… this is the chance to do all the crazy stuff I could never do in my home, because I’d get bored of it! Black woodwork? ABSOLUTELY fine in a shop, as I will never tire of it. Pink ceilings?! Well that’ll look amazing on instagram.

I know that Harriet & Rose is primarily somewhere that you come for thoughtful gifts in Jersey, but I am a huge believer in shopping being more than just a necessity, and absolutely being in a beautiful space. Shops shouldn’t be safe in terms of decorating… they should create a talking point. Whilst I need to make sure I get the storage right, and everything accessible, I also need you to want to come through the door! And that, that is where things get exciting.

Opening looks to be early July. I want it to be ‘just right’. And I have about 7456 items to get into the till (well, maybe not quite that many!).

It’s important to say that Harriet & Rose the shop, and Harriet & Rose the website, are equally the business. The website will always be where I started things, but the shop is a natural progression. I want to be able to offer maximum shopping flexibility to you, my customers. So whether you’re not living in Jersey and want to send a thoughtful gift to someone who is, we can help you (shop online 24/7 www.harrietandrose.co.uk). In the island but don’t want to come to town? Shop online. Need a gift, need it now, in town? Pop in and browse, or click and collect once we open the shop.

In short, by having the shop AND the website, we can offer you even more flexibility when it comes to your gifting needs in Jersey.
