Sending hampers and care packages in Jersey, Channel Islands

Hampers. Care packages. What’s the difference?

We were thinking about this long and hard the other day (our head is an interesting place to be sometimes!), and it occurred to us that so often hampers and care packages are used interchangeably. Hampers probably bring to mind niche pickles and chutney (and the older we get, the more we love a selection of pickles and chutneys), but also wicker, and picnics. They scream consumable and edible. And they also scream ‘share me’.

And share me is not something that you ever really want to receive as a present (well not a real present). We know that sounds a bit selfish, but when your kids give you some chocolate, you know the first question is usually ‘can I have some’ (and that is providing that it’s not already been presented to you half eaten). Hampers are great for a gift for more than one person, or for a family… we’ll happily put a hamper together of thoughtful gifts for all the family - whether it’s a gift for a new home, a survival pack for the holidays but a really thoughtful gift? One of our care packages.

See a care package from Harriet and Rose will come with a card. Sure, you can out more than one name on that card, but you probably only put the one. And from the hundreds of notes that we’ve written on your behalf seem to say is ‘this is for you’. We’ve thought about the contents carefully, and even the 100g of fudge is TOTALLY acceptable to be consumed by a single person. I mean, arguably you should share it, but we say KEEP IT ALL TO YOURSELF!

And we love that. Because gifts should be for the recipient. We are as guilty as the next person for buying (for example) stuff for Christmas that is - ostensibly - for him, but almost always for the house (and therefore us). This year though, we took a leaf out of our own book, and gave gifts that were 100% purchased with the recipient (and the recipient only) in mind. Lo and behold, they loved them.

And that, to us is the real difference between sending a care package, or sending a hamper. Care packages are personal, hampers are slightly more of a household free-for-all.

Hampers from Harriet and Rose can of course have a side of pampering in them too. We don’t do too many consumables (in truth, we’d eat them all), so our hampers come with a bit of a difference as they are all bespoke, for you. We’ve got an amazing selection of lotions and potions, from the beautiful bath salts from Seven Seventeen, to a selection of Jersey made products by Jersey Skin (think coffee body scrubs, hand putty, lip balms and bonne nuit pillow mists). We’re here to create bespoke gift hampers and care packages, and will always go out of our way to make them personal - from hand written cards with your message, to tweaking the contents so it is perfect for the recipient, we also work closely with our corporate clients to offer a gift less ordinary (whether it’s to staff or clients). Harriet and Rose care packages and hampers celebrate thoughtful, sustainable gifting, and incorporate many locally sourced and produced goods. Supporting local is one of the touchstones of our business - but so is sourcing new products that you haven’t found in Jersey before.

Above all, we want to help you give a genuinely thoughtful gift to the loved ones in your life, who live in Jersey. Whether you live in Jersey yourself, or live further afield and want to know that we can take care of things for you, Harriet and Rose is here to help, with all your gifting needs. Be they hampers, care packages, or something completely different.
