Valentine's Day 2021
Ah Valentine’s Day. I’ve blogged about this before (almost exactly a year ago in fact).
I find people fall into one of two (maybe three…) camps.
Those that do.
Those that don’t.
Those that feel bad for people who don’t get stuff, but quite like a card/flowers/gift all the same.
I am sure that you can guess which I fall into. Yes, that’s right… even as the owner of an online gifting website, I do not do Valentine’s Day. And what’s more - I’m not going to put a load of pressure on you to either.
That said, I have got some EXCELLENT cards on the way - though they are good for Valentine’s Day, they also can be used for anniversaries (I like my stock to say relevant year round if possible). And yes, they are mostly a bit rude. Our Janice and Jeffrey cards caused so many LOLs at the Small Business Pop Up, I was always going to expand our offering of them. I’ve got some sincere lovey-dovey ones as well en route. Just in case you’re more soppy than me.
What I would say regarding V-day this year, is SHOP LOCAL. Use your local florists (who’ve had the toughest of Januarys and Christmas’s) if you want a big bunch of flowers, seek out small online gift retailers (I know a great one called Harriet and Rose…), but spend locally and support your small Jersey businesses.
We don’t do flowers. But we do have some thoughtful gifts for a loved one if you would like to give something this Valentine’s Day. We also have some excellent gifts to send a best friend too. Whilst I have an active dislike of the concept of ‘Galantine’s’ (genuinely, I was a bit sick in my mouth writing that word down), I don’t have an issue with sending something thoughtful to a pal who might actively dislike V-day so that they know that you’re there for them. I just don’t like it being given a label. And a card that you’re told you should by. We offer free of charge gift tags for your message!
So here’s a few suggestions for what to send a loved one for Valentine’s Day in Jersey, Channel Islands…. and it’s just for info! Whether you are in or out of V day as a thing, you’ll have no judgement from me. Pleaes do check back next week as the cards will be uploaded on the website then (just in case the shops still aren’t open… if you want a small confession, it’s my wedding anniversary this Sunday and I have totally neglected to order a card in… good news that I have a stock room handy… The Husband could have an issue…).
But for a Valentine’s Day quick go-to, here is our gift guide.
The Take 15-minutes for yourself care packace (newly launched!)
Perfect for a friend who hates V-day, or is newly single, this sends a virtual hug in the post. It says ‘l care’ and it says ‘you’re important’. Our care packages are a firm website favourite - and you can add a note at checkout for us to include as well. Also great for mums (or dads) as a proper gesture of love - bath, candle and spacemask - ie 15minutes of rest (and, with any luck, peace).
For wafting. Because who doesn’t love to waft?! Made from 100% cotton and printed using traditional block-printing methods by a family business using traditional artisan techniques, we’ve always been a fan of these. (More coming into stock next week as well for some different styles and patterns)
And, new in - and just in time for Valentine’s Day - we have the heavier weight reversible dressing gowns too! Stay tuned for them hitting the website.
Perfect for sea living (in or on the water), we’ve just had some of our barometers land back in stock.
The thing with Valentine’s Day gifting is that it doesn’t have to be cliched, or red, or smell of roses (though those things are lovely - literally burning a rose candle as I write this blog). But really lovely gifts vary according to who you are giving them to… and frankly, we hope that you know the person yo’re sending V-day gifts to, better than us! (Though we’re of course willing to try and help come up with some ideas if you’re struggling).
Whether you do V-day, or you don’t, there’s always room for doing something thoughtful. And that can be something as small as putting the bins out for someone (that’s a hint P, just in case you’re reading).
